Curtin College

Curtin College (CC) is a private college located on the main Curtin University campus at Bentley. CC is an important initiative in providing a direct pathway for students seeking a Curtin University qualification. It was established to prepare students for undergraduate study and to provide students with opportunities to fast track their academic progress with a three-semester system. CC offers university entrance and university-level diplomas in a range of disciplines. Successful international graduates of the Diploma will be granted direct entry with advanced standing to specific undergraduate Curtin University courses. Entry for Australian and Permanent Resident students to the undergraduate course is determined by the availability of HECS-funded places.

CC students are welcome to join in all aspects of university life. The campus offers a safe and friendly environment to pursue tertiary studies. Students will have use of university resources including cafes, the library, dedicated computing laboratories and sporting and recreational facilities.

Teaching staff are highly qualified and university modes of teaching are used. These include lectures and small group tutorials. The staff at CC are also committed to providing a high level of personal support to all students so that their period of study as a student at CC is not only academically successful but also an enjoyable and memorable experience.

THREE SEMESTER SYSTEMS AND FAST TRACK OPTION
As most courses offered by CC can be completed over two semesters of studies, students can fast track their studies by taking advantage of the three-semester system at CC. Semesters commence in February, June and October and those who enter the Certificate IV course can compete this qualification and their Diploma in just 16 months. This allows them to enter the second year of a university course earlier than students studying in a conventional two-semester system.

FLEXIBLE STUDY OPTIONS
Students who prefer a more gradual transition into university study can extend their studies over three semesters. With the three-semester calendar year, students in this situation can still complete the course within a twelve month period.

SMALL GROUP TEACHING AND INDIVIDUAL ATTENTION
Lecture groups average between 30-40 students. Lectures are complemented by small group tutorials or workshops ensuring student receive the best of attention. Lecturers are highly skilled and sensitive to the needs of students.

ACCESS TO UNIVERSITY FACILITIES & SERVICES
Classes are conducted on the main University campus in the Perth metropolitan suburb of Bentley and CC students are welcomed to join in all aspects of university life. The campus offers a safe and friendly environment to pursue tertiary studies. Students have use of university resources including cafes, the library, dedicated computing laboratories and sporting and recreational facilities.

PROGRESSION TO CURTIN UNIVERSITY AND EXEMPTIONS
Curtin University grants direct second-year entry to the relevant course to international students who have successfully completed a Diploma from CC. Entry for Australian and Permanent Resident students to the undergraduate course is determined by the availability of HECS-funded places.

EXTENDED CONTACT HOURS
Students will normally have more contact hours with teaching staff than in normal undergraduate classes.

MIXED PROGRAMS (ENGLISH LANGUAGE SUPPORT PROGRAM)
Students who do not quite satisfy the English Language requirement can enrol for a special English Language support program and two academic units in the first semester of study. The advantage of this approach is students combine the learning of English language and support skills with a gradual introduction of the academic subjects. However, this arrangement will extend standard programs by an additional semester
